The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has officially kicked off preparations for a major 28-day maintenance shutdown, which will see essential work carried out on the pipeline infrastructure.
Channel One News visited WAPCo’s Takoradi Regulatory and Metering Station at the Aboadze Thermal Plant on January 29, 2025, to take a closer look at the preparations underway.
Engineer Benoni Owusu Ayeh, Operations and Maintenance Manager for WAPCo West, reassured the public that the maintenance would be completed within the scheduled 28-day period. He explained that this extensive work will also address issues with sub-sea valves, particularly in Tema and Cotonou, while also tackling onshore maintenance activities. “This is the longest shutdown we’ve had, occurring every five years, and we’ve synchronized all activities to ensure maximum efficiency,” Ayeh said.
The shutdown is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to maintain the pipeline’s integrity and ensure its long-term reliability. The work is a vital part of the company’s operations, ensuring that it remains in top condition for years to come.
In addition, WAPCo previously announced a two-week delay to its offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection exercise, known as “pigging,” which had been initially set to begin on January 20, 2025. The maintenance work will now begin on February 3, 2025, with key stakeholders’ interests being prioritized.
