Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for the removal of the Clerk to the Appointments Committee, accusing her of partisan behavior and creating obstacles during the vetting process.

Afenyo-Markin expressed frustration that the Clerk has made it difficult for him to ask relevant questions during vetting, claiming he has not been provided with essential information in advance. He also described incidents where CVs of nominees were only given to him just before vetting sessions were set to begin.

The Effutu MP pointed out that on Friday, the vetting process began without the Minority side being present, despite their readiness in the house. He stated that the committee had called a pre-sitting meeting, only to discover that the vetting had already started by the time they arrived.

“We are going through real challenges,” Afenyo-Markin said, highlighting what he believes to be the Clerk’s biased actions favoring the ruling party. He also recalled instances from his time as Majority Leader when the Clerk had insisted on involving the Minority Leader, even when he was out of the country.

Afenyo-Markin further alleged that the Clerk’s conduct has shifted from neutrality during the NPP’s time in power to clear partisanship under the current NDC government, demanding she maintain professional neutrality in the vetting process.

The Minority Leader also detailed several instances of alleged unprofessional conduct, including confusion over vetting times and obstruction of video evidence that he wanted to present. He claimed that his attempts to show video evidence during a parliamentary vetting session were blocked by the Clerk, who cited “technical challenges,” even though he later learned she had directed officials not to play the video.

“How can a clerk act this way?” Afenyo-Markin questioned.

He vowed not to allow the Minority side to be overlooked, reiterating that the NPP is a party of equals and should not be mistreated in Parliament.
