George Opare-Addo, Ghana’s Minister-designate for Youth Development and Empowerment, has vowed to aggressively address the issue of youth unemployment in the country if confirmed.
Speaking before the Appointments Committee on January 22, Opare-Addo highlighted the pressing threat posed by youth unemployment and called for the government to implement policies that will train and empower young people to secure a sustainable future.
“We will aggressively tackle unemployment in Ghana,” Opare-Addo stated, pledging to make the issue a priority in his tenure.
The National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also assured that his administration would work tirelessly to secure funding for youth initiatives. “We will knock on every door and go wherever we can to seek funding to support the youth,” he said.
Opare-Addo further condemned any violent actions among the youth, stating that such behaviour would not be tolerated. He also stressed the importance of shifting the focus of young people towards agriculture, proposing the creation of more opportunities in the sector to make it more appealing to the youth.
