Emelia Arthur, Ghana’s Minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, has pledged the government’s commitment to transparency and fairness in the issuance of fishing vessel licenses.

During her appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 22, Arthur emphasized that all licensing procedures would adhere to established guidelines to ensure integrity within the sector. She also addressed concerns over potential delays, noting that applicants would need to wait their turn if a backlog of applications exists.

“We will be fair and equitable. Those who are deserving of a license, following due process, will receive one,” Arthur stated. “However, if there is significant demand and congestion, applicants may have to wait their turn.”

Arthur’s comments reflect a broader effort to streamline the licensing process and maintain order within the fishing industry, which is vital to Ghana’s economy.
