The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a stern warning to Ghana’s security chiefs ahead of the 2024 general elections, stressing that they will be held accountable for any loss of life during the polls.

At a press conference on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the party’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, urged Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and the Chief of Defence Staff to strengthen security measures to ensure a peaceful election.

“The NDC, and by extension the people of Ghana, will hold the IGP and the Chief of Defence Staff accountable for any loss of life during the 2024 general elections,” Mr. Gyamfi said. “Elections are about counting heads, not cutting heads. No one should lose their life because of elections.”

The NDC also alleged that members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) were planning to manipulate the electoral process. Mr. Gyamfi called on the Election Security Taskforce to investigate the claims and ensure fairness in the polls.

He expressed confidence that the NDC would secure a decisive victory if the elections are conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.

“We are confident that Ghanaians will choose a leader who values honesty and truth over one who does not,” he added.

The NDC’s remarks come as political tensions rise in the lead-up to the December 2024 elections, with security and electoral integrity becoming key concerns.
