The Yendi Constituency Chairman of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nashiru Abdul Karim, has announced the suspension of 184 party members for breaching the party’s constitution during the recent elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 26 December 2024, Chairman Karim explained that the suspensions followed a series of complaints and investigations into alleged misconduct, as outlined in the NPP’s 2017 amended constitution. The decision is based on Article 3, Clauses (9)(1), (7)(1), and (8)(1) of the constitution.

The suspensions come after multiple petitions from party members concerning violations during the presidential and parliamentary elections. An inquiry conducted by the Constituency Executive Committee and the Disciplinary Committee followed these complaints.

A meeting held on 23 December 2024, with members of the Council of Elders, the Council of Patrons, and the Disciplinary Committee, led to a unanimous decision to suspend the 184 members. The Chairman underscored the need to uphold the party’s constitutional integrity and maintain discipline within the NPP.

In his statement, Chairman Karim confirmed that the suspensions took effect immediately on 26 December 2024. The move is intended to reinforce accountability and ensure that party members adhere to its rules and regulations.
