In a ceremony highlighting growing ties between Africa and Asia, President John Dramani Mahama has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Administration by Yonsei University in Seoul, recognizing his contributions to national development and international engagement.

The honorary degree was formally conferred on Friday, March 13, 2026, during a ceremony led by the university’s leadership, including its president, Yoon Dog-sup, and Kim Hyun-chul, dean of the Graduate School.

In his acceptance remarks,Mr. Mahama described the honor as one that extends beyond him personally to the people of Ghana.

“This honour you have bestowed upon me today is one that I accept on behalf of all the people of Ghana,” he said, calling it a symbol of the “deep respect, mutual relations and admiration” between Ghana and the Republic of Korea.

President Mahama also used the moment to highlight the importance of international collaboration, urging countries to strengthen partnerships and invest in the next generation.

“May the friendship between Ghana and Korea continue to grow deeper and stronger,” he said. “May we all commit ourselves to choosing peace over conflict, cooperation over confrontation, and hope over despair.”

Addressing students at Yonsei University directly, he encouraged young people to pursue excellence and lead with truth, emphasizing the role of education in shaping global progress.

The honorary doctorate underscores Mahama’s long-standing influence in public service while symbolizing the strengthening diplomatic and academic ties between Ghana and South Korea.
