The Minority in Parliament has strongly dismissed former President John Dramani Mahama’s claim that he solved the country’s notorious power crisis, known as ‘Dumsor,’ before leaving office in 2017.

During a press conference on Monday, March 3, in response to Mahama’s recent State of the Nation address, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adams, a former Finance Minister, criticized Mahama’s record on managing the country’s energy issues. “You did not fix dumsor. Your record on dumsor is abysmal,” Dr. Amin Adams said, contrasting Mahama’s tenure with that of current President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom he credited with stabilizing the power supply.

Dr. Amin Adams also called on the Mahama administration to release a load-shedding timetable to address the ongoing power outages affecting parts of the country.

Mahama, in his address to Parliament on Thursday, February 27, had defended his record, asserting that from January 2016 until his departure in January 2017, there were no power outages or load management, claiming, “Yes, I promised to fix it, and I did.” He also acknowledged the tough economic conditions Ghana faced, but expressed confidence that the country could recover from its challenges and return to prosperity.
