President John Dramani Mahama has called on the newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, to lead efforts to transform the country’s prisons into reformative institutions, rather than simply places of detention.

At a swearing-in ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Monday, March 17, 2025, Mahama emphasized the crucial role the Prisons Service plays in rehabilitating offenders and ensuring justice. He assured Baffoe-Bonnie of his administration’s full support in the pursuit of these reforms.

“Your responsibility, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie, is to spearhead the transformation of our prisons into genuine centres of reformation, not just places of incarceration,” President Mahama said. “You have my full backing in this vital mission.”

The President expressed confidence in her ability to lead the charge for meaningful changes to improve conditions and operations within Ghana’s prison system.
