Kofi Baah Agyepong, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has announced his resignation, effective January 24, 2025. In a letter to President John Dramani Mahama, Agyepong cited personal commitments and future aspirations as the primary reasons behind his decision to step down after two years at the helm.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as the CEO of the Youth Employment Agency,” Agyepong wrote, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead the agency and contribute to efforts addressing youth unemployment in Ghana. “However, I have decided to resign to focus on personal commitments and aspirations.”
The resignation comes at a time when the YEA has been a central player in tackling youth unemployment, with Agyepong overseeing key initiatives aimed at improving vocational training and creating job opportunities for young Ghanaians.
In his resignation letter, Agyepong expressed his best wishes to the President, offering “continued wisdom and strength in your service to the nation” while expressing confidence in the agency’s future under new leadership. He also assured that he would assist in a smooth transition, staying available for any urgent matters that may arise.
Agyepong’s departure leaves a significant leadership gap at the YEA, an agency that remains crucial in addressing one of Ghana’s most pressing issues—youth unemployment. The new government has not yet named his successor.
