Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a former communications director for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team,has indicated the party’s readiness to reintegrate former members and allies, including Paul Afoko and Alan Kyerematen, as part of broader efforts to consolidate unity ahead of the 2028 elections.
Mr. Aboagye said the NPP maintains an “open-door” policy for individuals aligned with its founding principles. His remarks come on the heels of a call by former lawmaker and 2024 presidential contender Kennedy Agyapong, who urged the party to reconcile with previously sidelined figures.
“This is a call that resonates with the entire party,” Mr. Aboagye said in an interview with Channel One Newsroom on Saturday. “The NPP has always made it clear that anyone who believes in the party’s values and vision is welcome.”
Addressing speculation around the party status of some figures, Mr. Aboagye clarified that not all individuals referenced by Mr. Agyapong are under suspension.
“Mr. Paul Afoko remains a member of the NPP. His issue was related to his former position within the party, but he was not suspended,” he said. “Alan Kyerematen, on the other hand, made a personal decision to leave the party and form his own political movement.”
Mr. Aboagye’s comments underscore ongoing internal dialogue within the NPP as it seeks to regroup and position itself for a competitive showing in future elections. The emphasis on unity suggests a strategic recalibration aimed at consolidating its base and avoiding fragmentation within the center-right coalition.
The New Patriotic Party, which lost the presidency in the 2024 election to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has since been engaged in a period of reflection and restructuring. Analysts say the reintegration of influential figures could play a critical role in revitalizing the party’s grassroots support.
“The position of the party nationwide is clear,” Mr. Aboagye said. “We’re open to all who share in the NPP’s ideology and are willing to return in good faith.”
