Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has returned home after making a full recovery from an illness that kept her away from public duties for several weeks.

She arrived in Accra on Friday from London, where she had been receiving medical care, and was welcomed at Kotoka International Airport by President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.

Also present at the airport were Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Vice President’s Chief of Staff Alex Segbefia, and other senior government officials. Religious leaders, including the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, and members of her family were also in attendance.

President Mahama confirmed her return while addressing supporters during a stop on his “Thank You Tour” in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was first admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on 29 March after reportedly falling ill a day earlier. Following medical advice, she proceeded on a three-week medical leave starting 7 April and travelled to the UK for further treatment as a precaution.

In a short address upon her return, the Vice President expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian public for their prayers and support, and extended special thanks to her medical team, President Mahama, and his brother Ibrahim Mahama for their care and concern.
