Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been handed a seven-match suspension and a £100,000 fine following an independent Regulatory Commission’s decision. The punishment comes after the Uruguayan international was found guilty of breaching FA Rule E3 in a media interview.

The FA charged Bentancur with improper conduct, alleging that he used abusive and/or insulting language, bringing the game into disrepute. The charge was classified as an “aggravated breach” under Rule E3.2, due to references—either explicit or implied—to nationality, race, or ethnic origin.

Despite Bentancur’s denial of the allegations, the Regulatory Commission upheld the charge after a formal hearing. In their ruling, the panel concluded that the midfielder’s comments crossed the line, warranting both the lengthy ban and significant financial penalty.

The FA has stated that the detailed written reasons behind the decision are now available for review. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur has yet to issue an official response.

The suspension deals a major blow to Spurs, who will be without one of their key players for seven crucial matches as they push forward in both domestic and international competitions. Bentancur’s camp has not indicated whether he plans to appeal.
