President John Dramani Mahama has toured the newly rebuilt Ghana High Commission in Nairobi, marking the first visit by a sitting Ghanaian head of state since the mission’s establishment in 1960.

The property, originally acquired by Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, served as the country’s first chancery in Kenya. However, it was closed in 1980 due to structural issues. Reconstruction began in 2008 and was completed in April 2024, with the new facility including a remodeled chancery and a newly constructed residence for the head of mission.

During the tour, President Mahama was accompanied by Ghana’s Head of Mission to Kenya, H.E. Damptey Bediako Asare, who described the visit as a historic occasion. The president praised the staff for their commitment to maintaining Ghana’s diplomatic presence in Kenya.

Also present during the visit were Acting Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu and Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) Stanislav Xoese Dogbe.
