Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change has officially rebranded as the United Party (UP Plus), signalling what the party describes as a “new dawn” in Ghanaian politics.

The party, which received its registration certificate from the Electoral Commission on 3 October, says the rebrand marks a shift towards more inclusive and accountable governance.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Accra, party chairman Abubakar Saddique Boniface said the new name pays homage to Ghana’s political history, while setting the stage for a modern political alternative.

“We present to you the United Party or UP Plus – a political organisation meant to bring real change to governance,” he said. “We will make a difference because we focus on universal values and leadership built on credibility and competence.”

Alan Kyerematen, a former trade minister who broke away from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2023, said the new identity reflects the party’s broader ambitions to challenge the status quo.

He said UP Plus would offer Ghanaians an alternative to the long-standing NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) political dominance, with a focus on economic transformation, job creation, and tackling corruption.

“This is a new dawn that will bring prosperity to our country,” Mr Kyerematen said. “It’s time to move beyond politics that divide us and instead mobilise the collective strengths of all Ghanaians – regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.”

He also pledged to prioritise transparent governance, environmental sustainability, and a zero-tolerance policy on corruption.

The rebranding comes as Ghana prepares for the 2026 general elections, with UP Plus positioning itself as a third force in a political landscape long dominated by two parties.
