Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has offered his best wishes to the more than 600,000 candidates sitting the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which began nationwide on Wednesday,June 11,2025.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Iddrisu described the exams — taking place from 11 to 17 June — as a key milestone in the academic journey of young Ghanaians.
“Today is a significant milestone in the academic journey of our young children across the country,” he said.
On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the Ministry of Education, the Minister encouraged candidates to remain calm, focused and honest throughout the exam period.
“They should believe in their ability to succeed — and they will,” he said. “They prepared for this day and will succeed through honest efforts.”
Mr Iddrisu reminded students that the examination was not only a test of memory but also a measure of character and potential.
“This examination is a reflection of their growth, their character and the potential for which they’ve been trained,” he added.
The Minister is currently touring the country to monitor the conduct of the exams and assess school readiness. Speaking from Techiman in the Bono Region, he highlighted concerns about inadequate furniture in some schools, including during an earlier visit to the Babator area.
“One of the issues I observed is the poor quality of furniture students are using, even for exams,” he said. “There is an urgent need for government to address these challenges.”
He assured that the Ministry would work with stakeholders to improve school infrastructure, stressing the importance of providing students with a conducive environment for learning and assessment.
Concluding his message, Mr Iddrisu said: “Best of luck, best wishes — be confident, and you will succeed through honest efforts.”
