Ghana’s health authorities have confirmed 34 new cases of Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, raising the country’s total case count to 79 as the virus continues to spread across multiple regions.
According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), more than ten regions have reported infections, prompting the agency to intensify nationwide surveillance and public awareness efforts. Four individuals are currently hospitalized and under observation, health officials said Tuesday.
The recent spike in cases has sparked public concern, though authorities are urging calm, maintaining that the situation remains under control.
“While the increase in numbers is being closely monitored, there is no immediate cause for alarm,” GHS said in a statement. “We are enhancing contact tracing and encouraging early reporting of symptoms to help contain further spread.”
Mpox is a viral zoonotic disease that transmits from animals to humans and between people through close physical contact or contaminated materials. Common symptoms include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and muscle aches.
The health service has advised individuals experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention promptly at the nearest facility. Efforts to track and isolate potential cases are ongoing.
The latest outbreak comes amid growing concerns over global reemergence patterns of Mpox in both endemic and non-end
