The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry said Monday that a planned increase in sachet water prices has been suspended following discussions with industry groups, easing immediate cost pressures on consumers.
In a statement, the ministry said producers would hold prices at current levels after the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers agreed to delay the proposed adjustment.
“The price of sachet water will not increase today,” the ministry said, adding that consumers could continue to purchase at existing rates.
The industry had earlier signaled a price hike, citing a global shortage of polymers and rising input costs tied to geopolitical tensions, including the Iran conflict. Proposed prices were set to reach GH¢8 at the ex-factory level and as much as GH¢15 at retail.
Officials said the suspension underscores the government’s effort to stabilize prices of essential goods while broader talks continue with producers. The ministry is scheduled to meet industry leaders on April 8 to address supply constraints and cost pressures facing the sector.
Sachet water remains a primary source of drinking water for many households in Ghana, making price stability a politically and economically sensitive issue.
