The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to reverse all “last-minute” government appointments and promotions made by the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, announced that the incoming administration would review and terminate any government employment or promotions deemed to have been made illegally. He specifically highlighted that appointments in the public sector that were made without proper procedure would be overturned.

Speaking at a thanksgiving rally in Sunyani following the December 7 election victory, Asiedu Nketia accused the NPP of issuing around 10,000 appointment letters and promoting several officials within public institutions and agencies in the final days of their tenure. He expressed concerns about the “last-minute rush” to fill positions, which he described as politically motivated and damaging to the integrity of the civil service.

Among the institutions implicated in these alleged “last-minute” actions were the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS). Asiedu Nketia also accused the outgoing government of backdating some appointment letters in an attempt to conceal these activities.

He emphasized that the NDC would ensure future appointments and promotions were based on merit rather than political connections. “We are committed to ensuring that the integrity of the civil service is upheld,” he said.
