President-elect John Mahama has announced plans to establish a committee aimed at fulfilling his 120-day social contract with the people of Ghana. The initiative includes the “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL) programme, which seeks to tackle corruption by investigating allegations, recovering misappropriated state funds, and prosecuting offenders.
In a statement, Mahama expressed confidence in the plan, saying, “We have carefully selected achievable goals for the first 120 days.” He added, “We will work diligently to ensure that by the end of the 120 days, we can check each of these off.”
The incoming president highlighted that the committee would be tasked with overseeing the execution of this agenda, which also aims to elevate accountability in government. “It is a constitutional obligation to uphold probity and accountability,” Mahama said during a courtesy visit by members of the Apostolic Fathers.
Mahama emphasized the importance of transparency, noting that while individuals can run their private businesses as they see fit, public officials must be accountable for the taxpayer funds that sustain their offices.
The 120-day agenda, according to Mahama, represents “the last chance to get things right” in addressing the longstanding issue of corruption in Ghana. He acknowledged that corruption remains a challenge in the country and across the region but stressed the urgency of restoring public trust in the democratic process.
