The Bono Regional Chairman of Ghana’s opposition New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe—widely known as Abronye DC—was remanded in custody for two weeks on Wednesday as authorities broaden an investigation into alleged misinformation and inflammatory public remarks.
The latest detention comes weeks after Mr. Baffoe had been granted bail following an earlier arrest tied to the same investigation.

Security officials first detained the outspoken politician on April 13 over allegations including offensive conduct, false publication and statements authorities said were likely to provoke fear and public unrest. He was later released on bail pending further investigations.

Authorities rearrested Mr. Baffoe on Wednesday as investigators intensified efforts to examine the allegations, according to people familiar with the matter.

Officials have not disclosed details surrounding the latest arrest or indicated whether additional charges would be filed.

The case is part of a broader crackdown by security agencies on what officials describe as the spread of false information and incendiary commentary deemed capable of undermining public order.
